Recently I had the pleasure of hosting hot-off the-press author Brian Sweany for his book launch party at Sweet Revenge®. On the first night of the publishing industry’s NYC Book Expo week, 50 guests celebrated his debut novel “Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer”. Brian signed books, which were available thanks to bookbook, our fave neighborhood bookstore around the corner on Bleecker street. He captivated the audience while reading his prologue from our bay window. A huge thank you goes to his publisher The Writer’s Coffee Shop for generously sponsoring the evening of cupcakes & booze at Sweet Revenge®. And of course a massive thank you goes to Brian for having his reading/signing soiree at mine.
Brian and I know each other from back in the day when big 80s hair was synonymous with aqua net, Foreigner & the Steve Miller band provoked teenage rebellion, rattails & mullets came & thankfully went, and Coors silver bullet was only available outside state lines. I’m very proud of my fellow hoosier. It’s a helluva an accomplishment to get published. And this did not come lightly or easily – it came hard won after 5 years and 55 publishers turned him down. I commend him on an impressive perseverence, and I know the book took many turns along the way. I’m happy for Brian that he is enjoying a taste of his own Sweet Revenge. JK Rawling 2.0 has arrived – go Brian! I am delighted to report he just submitted his first draft of his second novel into his publisher this week. I HIGHLY recommend “Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer” for bookclub. I’m reading it now, enjoying it immensely. I’m hoping we can catch Brian on one of his next trips to NYC for one of mine. It will make me the fave member of bookclub for sure.
Congrats Brian! Cheers to the success of “Exotic Music of the Belly Dancer” and many more of your successes to come my friend!
