After a crazylong hiatus, I am back to blogging! Today is a sunsplashy day here in NYC, and the whole neighborhood is buzzy with good energy. It’s very feelgood to have the bay windows wide open, the tunes spilling out onto the street and feel the warmth of the coming spring.
Last year I had several surgeries – hip, vascular and the last one in early December to remove 10 fibroid tumors (fondly referred to as my fruitbasket since a few were the size of apples). Recuperating in bed for a few weeks at the end of last year very worn out, with my 6 inch scar and my mom by my side, made me reflect on what I’m doing. Without question, I feel blessed to be having a ton of fun with my beautiful business, making delish food for kickass patrons with an awesome team and dreaming up Sweet Revenge® branded lifestyle products in my spare time. But having turned 41 last fall, very single and without any munchkins, my fertility front and center on my radar screen and my health a bit battered, I had to make serious changes so my life would be different in all the best possible ways. As 2011 came to a close, my dear pal Treena emailed me the following to contemplate.
1) What did I learn in 2011?
2) What did I want to leave behind in 2011
3) What did I want to accomplish in 2012
In prior years, my learnings and leave-behinds would have been business-centric and my goals would have echoed the same. Instead, answers to all three revolved around a fulfilling life outside of Sweet Revenge ®. After 3 1/2 years doing what I love, I focused my energies on my personal life so I could find my man and have a family. I made peace with myself, getting comfortable with the business being in a good place and knowing I had earned the right to prioritize differently. An amazing thing happened once I got really clear.
On the 5th of January my dear galpal Joc married the love of her life Stephen. After the festivities, Joc gave me her lucky scarf that she was wearing, or as she put it – her lucky-in-love scarf that she’d only worn on her wedding day. The next night I went out on my first date of the new year and met an unbelievably kind-hearted and amazing man, G. We have been having the absolute best time together, falling happily head over heels in love. He just asked me to marry him, and I said yes! I have never been happier in all of my life!
